When you open a picture file, you may notice that there are parts of the picture you don't want people to see.  To crop that away, first draw a selection box around the part you want to keep.  Left drag to make the box.  Lift your finger from the left mouse button when you want the box to close.  If you get the size wrong, just make a new box. The old one will disappear.

Once you have selected  your target, left click the word "Edit" at the top of the screen.  You will see this option box:

Select "Crop selection" or use Control +Y.  that will leave only the area inside the selection box.  Then you should select "File/Save as" and give it a different file name than the original picture.  Remember where you put it, and if Irfanview doesn't come up with the folder you want to put it in, go back to Graphics Basics One and refresh your memory on browsing for folders.  If you want to make a new folder for the picture, use the icon that looks like a folder with a sparkle (as if it had just been touched by a magic wand).  It's on top of the "Save as" window.    You may notice that the picture I used to show this is smaller than the one above it.  To see how to do that go to graphics three; re-sampling.
