This image shows the selected single unit immediately following the rotate and duplicate step.  I then saved it by the name of "Ring" and then again by the name of Unitmax.

 In the file named Unitmax, I deleted all but one unit and dragged the corner of that form out to fill the hoop as much as I could without distorting the shape.  Select the corner of the selection box to be sure you keep the design as it was when you enlarge it.  This is the design you use to make your pattern pieces.
