This ornament is free standing, and the center section hangs perpendicular to the outer ring, giving it a  3-dimensilan effect, but I had to flatten it onto the bed of  my scanner to make the image.  I stitched it on water soluble stabilizer (Badgemaster) with two layers of petticoat netting laid on top, but not hooped.  After I finished stitching the design, I trimmed away the net and soaked away the stabilizer, then dried it on hanging on a pin.  It is not necessary to get all of the stabilizer out of the ornament, since some stiffening is helpful.
